Day 6 – 11/27/2018

Wow, it’s been a long day to say the least, very full without much time to rest. From doctor’s appointments, to helping with papers to going to a Bible study on the other end of town, it’s been a long exhausting day. Like usual, I find myself having the deepest thoughts while listening to songs on the radio.

Firstly, though, I have another thought that is taking precedence in my mind. I read a devotional every day by Oswald Chambers called My Utmost for His Highest.

Today’s can be found here: www.utmost.org

In short, today’s was about The Consecration of Spiritual Power, however what struck me was two particular parts:

The Spirit of God has set a great many people free from their sin, yet they are experiencing no fullness in their lives— no true sense of freedom. The kind of religious life we see around the world today is entirely different from the vigorous holiness of the life of Jesus Christ. “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one” (John 17:15). We are to be in the world but not of it— to be separated internally, not externally (see John 17:16).

We are to be of the world, but not in it. We’re to be separated from the word internally, and not let all of the junk that’s around us that’s of the world influence how we think, act or what we do, stay focused on Christ and not let anything slow us down. If there’s a place we’re at or a scenario that’s causing us to conform to the world, we need to get rid of it immediately before we become like the world.

As it says, there are far too many people that may be free of their sin due to the grace of God and his son’s sacrifice, but with no freedom.

The second part, which is similar says:

We must make a deliberate determination to be interested only in what God is interested. The way to make that determination, when faced with a perplexing problem, is to ask yourself, “Is this the kind of thing in which Jesus Christ is interested, or is it something in which the spirit that is diametrically opposed to Jesus is interested?”

We need to make a deliberate determination in our minds to be only interested in what God is interested in. When we are faced with a problem we should ask ourselves, is this the kind of thing in which Jesus Christ is interested, or is it something in which the spirit that is diametrically opposed to Jesus is interested?

We have to ask ourselves, is this something Jesus would do, think or say. If it isn’t, we probably should do or think or say it as there’s no gray area. It’s either something Jesus would do or it something He wouldn’t. It’s either something that is in line with being Christlike or something in which the spirit that is diametrically opposed to Jesus is interested, namely, in my thought, Satan.

We should not allow such thoughts to captivate our minds, or such words that do not honor God to leave our lips, or actions to performed by our bodies which are supposed to be a temple to God, clean and pure.

Regardless, here’s the song that I was thinking of today:

You are God alone by Phillips, Craig and Dean:

You are not a God, created by human hands
You are not a God, dependent on any mortal man
You are not a God, in need of anything we can give
By Your plan, that’s just the way it is

(God was not created by human hands. He has always existed. This is a basic foundational truth of the Bible. He is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega, he has always existed and will always exist. He is not dependent on any mortal man. He doesn’t depend on us, yet we depend on Him, whether we see it or not. He could cause the entire world to disappear in the blink of his eye, but that’s not his character. He’s not in need of anything we can give Him. He doesn’t need our deepest praise, he doesn’t need our prayers, he doesn’t need our devotion. He commands it though, as he wants us to love Him, to cherish Him, to desire Him, to want Him more than anything else in this world, and when we do, that is when we find the peace that we’ve always been seeking.)

You are not a God, created by human hands
You are not a God, dependent on any mortal man
You are not a God, in need of anything we can give
By Your plan, that’s just the way it is

You are God alone from before time began
You were on Your throne
You are God alone and right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
And you are God alone

(He has been God alone from before time began. He was always God, the only God, there is no God except for Him. He is on His throne now and he is still on His throne on even in our suffering and in the days that we experience joy, the good times and the bad, it doesn’t change who he is, though our perception of Him may change, that makes absolutely no difference to who He is.)

You’re the only God whose power none can contend
You’re the only God whose name and praise will never end
You’re the only God who’s worthy of everything we can give
You are God and that’s just the way it is

(There is nothing stronger than God. None can even begin to contend. Satan as been allowed to be the “prince of the power if the air” and have a temporary “reign” in this world, though he is not unlimited. Many people see Satan as the opposite of God, the source of evil. He is not, however. He is simply a created being who fell from Heaven and took a third of the angels with him when he became jealous of God’s creation of humanity, as we are image bearers of Christ and angels are not. He isn’t all knowing, he can’t read our minds, he can’t be everywhere at once, those are characteristics of God, of his deity, of his power, not of Satan who is so severely limited and crippled. We give him more power than we should.

His praise will never end. Even in the New Heavens and New Earth when we have our restored bodies we’ll still be praising God with our lives, in our experiences, in our jobs, in our friendships and in all that we do. We will likely have times to spend singing his praises, perhaps Sundays will still have significance to remember God’s creation of humanity, as I’m assuming we’ll still get tired and need to rest, but it won’t be in a bad way and we’ll always know that we’ll wake up feeling fantastic and be able to start the day anew every day for eternity. He’s worthy of everything we can give. That includes our very lives. It’s the least we can do.)

You are God alone from before time began
You were on Your throne
You are God alone and right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
And you are God alone
Unchangeable, unshakable, unstoppable
That’s what You are
Unchangeable, unshakable, unstoppable
That’s what You are

(He’s unchangeable, he’s unshakable, he’s unstoppable. He doesn’t change. He cannot be shaken and no-one can stop his plans. He is the only God, he is God alone. Anyone who thinks that they can overthrow Him is a fool.)

You are God alone from before time began
You were on Your throne
You are God alone and right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
And you are God alone
Unchangeable, unshakable, unstoppable
That’s what You are

I believe that this post is long enough. I could continue to type endlessly as thoughts are still flowing through my mind, however I have to get some things done and then get some sleep myself. I hope that everyone has a fantastic day, morning, night, evening, afternoon or whatever it may be where you are.

Bye for now,

Just Stephen
